The agency also has begun work on an environmental impact statement for the license renewal and announced public meetings to be held near the plant on Jan. 10, 2023.

These grants are part of the $16 million appropriated by Congress in fiscal year 2022 under the University Nuclear Leadership Program authorization. NRC News releases: 

Nuclear Regulatory Commission officials in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, have selected Eli Garcia as the resident inspector at the Salem Nuclear Generating Station. He joins Senior Resident Inspector Jake Dolecki at the two-unit site operated by PSEG Nuclear LLC in Hancock’s Bridge, New Jersey.

Nuclear Regulatory Commission officials in Atlanta have named Robert Wehrmann as the agency’s new resident inspector at the Watts Bar Nuclear Power Plant near Spring City, Tennessee. He joins NRC Senior Resident Inspector Wesley Deschaine at the two-unit site operated by the Tennessee Valley Authority.

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has accepted for review a construction permit application from Abilene Christian University, which requests permission to build its Molten Salt Research Reactor facility on the university’s campus in Abilene, Texas. The university submitted the application on Aug. 15 and provided additional information on instrumentation and controls on Oct. 14.
