Current status of U.S. nuclear power plants: 

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s Current Power Reactor Status Report was posted on August 3. The last recorded status is as follows: 

  • 4 US nuclear reactors are at reduced capacity.
  • 1 of the 92 US nuclear reactors listed on the NRC’s daily report are not operating. Non-operating reactors are listed in our US Reactor Status table.

NRC News releases: 

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has issued a Confirmatory Order to the National Institute of Standards and Technology for violating NRC requirements during a February 2021 event at the NIST research reactor in Gaithersburg, Maryland. The event resulted in damage to a reactor fuel element without affecting public health and safety.
