Current status of U.S. nuclear power plants: 

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s Current Power Reactor Status Report was posted on August 4. The last recorded status is as follows: 

  • 4 US nuclear reactors are at reduced capacity.
  • 2 of the 92 US nuclear reactors listed on the NRC’s daily report are not operating. Non-operating reactors are listed in our US Reactor Status table.

Event Reports from Reactors:

Farley reported an automatic reactor trip due to loss of power to a start-up transformer.

NRC News releases: 

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has authorized Southern Nuclear Operating Company to load nuclear fuel and begin operation at Vogtle Unit 3 in Georgia, the first reactor to reach this point in the agency’s combined license process. SNC recently informed the agency that the company completed the inspections, tests, analyses, and acceptance criteria needed to show Vogtle Unit 3 can begin safe operations.
